Queen’s Platinum Jubilee

Next year, the Queen will become the first British monarch in history to celebrate a Platinum Jubilee, marking her seventy years on the throne.

People across Somerset are being encouraged to come together to celebrate Her Majesty’s historic reign. To help Somerset play a full part in celebrating the Queen’s legacy a new website has been launched.

The Platinum Jubilee Somerset website features information about how groups and individuals can get involved either through the Queen’s Green Canopy scheme; by registering a beacon or organising a street party.

The Green Canopy initiative invites people to plant as many trees as possible during the tree-planting seasons that run from now through to March and again from October 2022 to the end of next year. The initiative will not only celebrate the Queen’s long reign but also have a positive impact on the environment –

There are various plans in place for celebrations to mark the Platinum Jubilee, including a four-day national Bank Holiday from Thursday, June 2nd through to Sunday, June 5th with beacons lit across Somerset and the rest of the UK.
