Tennis Courts

Somerset Council and the Lawn Tennis Association have partnered to invest in and refurbish public park tennis courts.

Three tennis venues have been renovated at a cost of £200,000, helping to ensure quality sports facilities are available to local communities.

The courts are those at Yeovil Recreation Ground, Ilminster Recreation Ground, and Severalls Park in Crewkerne. Facilities that were in an unplayable condition have been brought back to life with improved accessibility, new gate-access technology and booking systems.

The improvements form part of a nationwide investment by the government and LTA Tennis Foundation to refurbish public tennis courts across the UK and open up tennis to many more people.

Alongside the investment, Somerset Council will work with the LTA to deliver a range of activities at the venues. This will include organised free tennis sessions for all ages, playing levels and experience, with equipment provided, meaning that people will not need someone to play with or have their own racket. The plan also includes setting up Local Tennis Leagues to provide opportunities to get active through local competition.

Sessions at the courts in Yeovil, Ilminster and Crewkerne can be booked online via the LTA website and booking platform ‘Clubspark’.
