A group of volunteers in Somerset is helping to teach children how to stay safe when out walking alone. 'Citizens Somerset' which works with the Police and Somerset Council to help reduce knife crime, are advising younger people on what to do if they encounter aggressive behaviour in a public space.

Taunton Town Football Club has been issued with a winding-up petition. Public records show the Inland Revenue issued the petition to the National League South club on Wednesday. It’s not known how much Taunton Town owes or when a court hearing will be held.

Waste collection days in some parts of South Somerset will change from February 12th. Somerset Waste Partnership says letters will be sent out next week advising affected households of the new date when their waste will be collected. SWP says the changes are aimed at making collections more efficient and reducing mileage and carbon emissions.

Somerset is estimated to have seen over 700 thousand pounds brought into the local economy through films and TV programmes being made in the County. Creative England estimates that film and TV productions across the South West as a whole have generated close to 30 million pounds. Screen Somerset, which is part of Somerset Council, works with production teams to attract filming to the local area.

With ice around in some places in South Somerset again this morning, the NHS is advising that to stay safe on icy footpaths, people should walk or waddle like penguins. The NHS says adopting a penguin-like stance can reduce the risk of slipping and tripping when walking on icy surfaces.
