Residents in the Somerton & Frome constituency have a new MP. Sarah Dyke has claimed the seat for the Liberal Democrats after a by-election was triggered by the resignation of Conservative, David Warburton. Dyke won with a majority of 11,008 and a swing to the Lib Dems of 29%

The prestigious Keep Britain Tidy green flag is being flown at three new locations in south Somerset. Ham Hill Country Park, Yeovil Country Park and Chard Reservoir Local Nature Reserve have been awarded the flag, whilst Ham Hill also retains its Green Heritage Site Accreditation. The three locations in our area are joined by another 7 across Somerset, and the scheme sets the benchmark standard for the management of green spaces across the UK.

A Yeovil-based leather goods firm says it needs to raise up to £1.16m or face the possibility of administration. Pittards was founded in 1826 and is part of the town’s leather and glove-making heritage. It currently employs a reported 200 people in the country, with further employees abroad.

And if you’re looking for the best places to eat this weekend, four Somerset companies have made it to the annual Sunday Times list. South Petherton’s Bloom Wine Company and the Lord Poulett Arms in Hinton Saint George are both featured, alongside the Somerset Cider Brandy Company and Smith & Evans English Sparkling Wine.
