Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service is asking people not to drive through flood water and to obey road closure signs. It follows an incident at the weekend in which a mother and her baby son had to be rescued after their car got stuck in floodwater in Somerset.

Preston Road in Yeovil between the College roundabout and the junction with Westfield Road is being shut to traffic today for re-surfacing. This stretch of Preston Road will be closed each day until Friday this week between 7.30 am and 6 pm but will be reopened to traffic in the evenings. Beer Street in Yeovil is also closed today for repairs to a water main.

A number of mature Ash trees are to be cut down in Crewkerne. The Town Council says following checks, Ash Dieback disease was found in all the Ash trees under its control. The sites most affected are Townsend Cemetery, where ash trees border the A30 and Bincombe Beeches Nature Reserve, which is home to a large number of ash trees.

A new care home for people living with dementia is due to open next month in Yeovil. Chestnut Lodge on Hendford Hill, previously known as the Acacia Lodge Care Home, has been bought by new owners and is currently undergoing a major refurbishment.

Yeovil Town has signed Charlie Cooper on an 18-month contract. The 25-year-old is the son of Yeovil Manager, Mark Cooper, and previously played for Forest Green Rovers.
