Police are appealing for witnesses and dashcam footage to a collision between a car and motorcycle at Seavington St Michael, near Ilminster. It happened in New Road close to the junction with West Street at 12:45 Monday lunchtime (01-11). If you can help you’re asked to call the non emergency number 101.

It’s been proposed that a new group be set up in Chard to tackle the problem of flooding in the town. The Chard Flood Resilience Group would be tasked with finding a long-term solution to the problem of flooding in Chard following the two major flooding events in recent months. Chard’s Mayor Jason Baker will propose setting up the group at the next Monday’s meeting of the Town Council.

A new Visitor Centre is to be built at Ham Hill Country Park, on the outskirts of Yeovil. The centre, part of the Ham Hill Past and Future project will feature exhibitions, a café, toilets and an educational space, providing visitors with a central base from where to explore the Iron Age hill fort.

The NHS in Somerset is reporting a rise in Covid cases with demand for hospital beds and social care exceeding capacity. The NHS says mental health and GP services; as well as acute hospital trusts, are also struggling to cope.

A community centre in Yeovil has been given £3,000 to set up a food pantry and run toddler activities. St Peter’s Community Centre on Coronation Avenue has been awarded funding by the housing association Abri from their Community Fund. The money will be used to provide families with food parcels and run weekly toddler sessions.
