Yeovil Hospital says today’s strike action by nurses is not being supported at Yeovil Hospital. It says members of the Royal College of Nursing will work as normal today and that patients should attend appointments at the times requested. Meanwhile, paramedics and emergency care assistants are expected to join ambulance workers on picket lines outside ambulance stations across Somerset tomorrow as part of a day of nationwide strikes. Members of the UNISON in Somerset will take part in the stoppage between midday and midnight. Unison says every ambulance station in the County will be affected including Ilminster, Wincanton and in Yeovil. Unison is demanding a pay rise for its members in line with inflation, which the government has rejected.

Rail users are being advised to avoid travelling on Christmas Eve if possible. GWR's service that runs through Castle Cary station will finish at lunchtime on December 24th.

A new Senior Coroner has been appointed for Somerset. Samantha Marsh, who has been Acting Senior Coroner since the retirement of Tony Williams in March this year, will now take on the role permanently.

The National Trust is asking people to park responsibly if going along to Glastonbury Tor for the Winter Solstice tomorrow. In previous years, drivers have parked around the site blocking access for emergency vehicles.

A cocktail bar in Ilminster has won a top national award. ‘The Somerset’ run by Mark and Alice Temperley won the Best Bar prize in the National Muddy Stilettos Awards 2022.

Redlief Care, who runs the Redlief House care home on Preston Road in Yeovil, has won recognition in this year’s Great British Care Awards in the South West. In the Care Employer of the Year category, Redlief Care, was singled out for a Highly Commended Award by the judging panel.
