Plans to convert the former Boden Street mill building in Chard into new housing have been halted. It’s also emerged that the cost of the town's new swimming pool has increased to sixteen million pounds. South Somerset District Council could now have to take out a 12 million pound loan for the scheme to progress.

Police have made an arrest in connection with an assault on a man in Langport. It happened in the area of Parrett Close last Friday. The man needed hospital treatment for his injuries which were not thought to be life-threatening.

A change is being made in the running of all of Somerset’s recycling centres. Viridor, who has run all 16 sites over many years, is handing responsibility to waste firm, Biffa. It’s expected that Viridor staff will transfer to Biffa employment from September.

The former Haynes Publishing site at Sparkford has been put up for sale. The site has not been used since 2013 after Haynes moved from print to online with its publishing activities.

A national shortage of veterinary staff is putting increasing amounts of pressure on practices in Somerset. The British Veterinary Association blames the shortage on Brexit and a big increase in pet ownership during the pandemic.

A former pub in Ilminster is to be turned into residential dwellings. The Bell Inn on the High Street closed four years ago. The current owner has been granted a ‘change of use’ on the building by South Somerset District Council.
