Drivers will face a twenty-mile diversion when a road in South Somerset closes for repairs later this month. A one-and-a-half-mile stretch of Blackdown Hill Road at West Buckland will be shut for five days from Monday, 21st March for resurfacing.

A Chard man has been given a community order with eighty hours of unpaid work for committing an assault. Haydn Parsons of Dwelly Close in Chard was appearing before local magistrates where he pleaded guilty to the charge.

Plans have been submitted to build two self-build houses near Langport. If approved, the dwellings would be built on land north of Breach Furlong Lane at High Ham.

The outdoor swimming pool in Street will reopen this summer for the first time in two years. ‘Greenbank’ was closed during the pandemic due to it being too expensive to run. A grant of thirty-thousand pounds has now been given by Street Parish Council to enable the pool to be reopened.

Dawes Twineworks in West Coker near Yeovil is bringing back a big name to the area. ‘Coker Canvas’, was a world-renowned material in sailing and unique to the village for centuries up to its disappearance in the late 19th century. Now, with the help of Ilminster-based international dress designer, Alice Temperley, ‘Coker Canvas’ is set to be revived for making bags and other fashion items.

Events are being held in Wincanton this week to mark International Women's Day and celebrate and inspire young women. Event organiser, Lynne Franks, who runs the Seed Store in the High Street in Wincanton is hoping that young women from all around the Wincanton area will take part.
