Work to upgrade the gas network on Preston Road in Yeovil begins later this month. Wales and West Utilities start the work on July 20th. A one-way system will operate between Larkhill Road, Preston Grove and Bell Chase until September 2nd. Watercombe Lane at its junction with Preston Road will close. Wales and West say the work is to ensure the gas network is ready to transport hydrogen and bio-methane, to help deliver a greener Somerset.

The future of eleven council buildings and services in Yeovil has been secured. At a meeting last night, members of Yeovil Town Council voted to take over the management, staffing and funding of Yeovil Country Park, Mudford Rec and Westland Entertainment venue after Somerset Council said they could no longer afford to provide them.

Somerset Council has been given the go-ahead to deliver the final phase of the Yeovil Refresh project. The Council will now buy Glovers Walk and convert rooms above shops in Middle Street and Wyndham Street into living spaces.  It follows the reallocation of £4.8 million of High Street funding to the Yeovil Refresh project by the Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government.

The wet weather is being blamed for a big drop in visitor numbers to Somerset. Accommodation providers, attractions, and food sellers say takings are down by around 20 percent on this time last year.

Hambridge Primary School has been awarded a School Games Gold Mark. The Games Mark is a government-led scheme that rewards schools for their commitment to the development of sporting competition within their school and the local community.
