Somerset Waste Partnership says there’s been an increase in fires on its bin lorries and at recycling depots in South Somerset. They’re asking householders not to put batteries, gas canisters and disposable barbeques into waste bins and to find other ways of disposing of these items safely.

Somerset Council has given the go-ahead for nine new homes to be built in Shave Lane, Horton, near Ilminster, despite residents claiming the road is too narrow to cope with additional traffic. The development will consist of nine detached dwellings, made up of two three-bedroomed houses, six four-bedroomed homes and one larger five-bedroomed unit. Existing buildings on the site will be demolished.

Police are trying to find a driver who failed to stop after a crash on the A30 last week. A black Volkswagen Golf collided with another car between Yeovil and Crewkerne on Thursday, June 15th, at around 11.40 am. The driver of the other vehicle sustained neck injuries and was taken to Yeovil Hospital but later discharged. Police are appealing for witnesses and anyone with dash cam footage to contact them by calling the non-emergency number 101.

Members of Ilminster Town Council have given their backing to building a new pavilion at Ilminster Cricket Club’s ground. The Club now has to wait for Somerset Council to make a final decision before work starts demolishing the existing pavilion to make way for the new building.

The airfield at Leonardo in Yeovil is in use tonight for test flights. Leonardo says aircraft will be taking off and landing until late into the night, and has apologised for any disturbance this may cause.
