Police have named the driver who died following a crash on the A 303 Ilminster by-pass and a man was taken to hospital by air ambulance after suffering burns in a garden fire.

It's been confirmed that elections to Somerset County Council, which were due to take place in May, have been postponed for a year. It’s thought Local Government Secretary, Robert Jenrick, was influenced in his decision to suspend the vote, by the plans currently in progress, to re-organise local government in Somerset.

Somerset's Director of Public Health says coronavirus infection numbers are continuing to fall. Trudi Grant says the current rate has come down to 75 cases per 100,000 population and that the figures for the over 60’s are especially encouraging.

Police have named the driver who died following a crash on the A 303 Ilminster by-pass earlier this month. He was Sean Starke, 24, who lived in Ilminster. Mr Starke was killed when his car was in collision with van, close to the South Petherton roundabout, on Sunday, February 14th.

A cannabis factory has been discovered within the former NatWest bank in Crewkerne, which was the scene of a major fire on Monday. Cannabis plants were found growing inside the empty building on Market Street by investigators searching for possible clues as to the cause of Monday’s incident.

A man was taken to hospital by air ambulance after suffering burns in a garden fire in Sherborne. It happened at a property in South Avenue. The man’s condition in hospital is not known.
