A lorry driver had a lucky escape when his vehicle overturned and hit an embankment on the A37 Dorchester Road in Yeovil. It happened by the Red House Pub close to the Keyford roundabout at around 5 pm yesterday. The A37 was partially blocked for almost two hours. No other vehicle was involved.
South Somerset District Council says a site has been found for a new primary school in Chard. Building the new school had been held up due to no site being identified but the district council says a site has been found and the school will be built to support new housing development on parcels of land between the A358 Tatworth Road and the A30 Crewkerne Road. Chard has been promised a second primary school but not before 2028.
A South Petherton man has appeared in court to deny murder. Matthew Sheridan is accused of the fatal stabbing of Louis Bednall at a block of flats on Hendford Hill in Yeovil on December 12th last year. A jury at Exeter Crown Court has been told there had been a dispute between Mr Bednall and Sheridan a few minutes before the stabbing incident. The trial continues.
Kingsbury Episcopi is the latest South Somerset village to lose its local pub. The owners of the Wyndham Arms pub say following a massive fall-off in trade caused by the pandemic they had no alternative but to permanently shut the business.
