A Yeovil woman who survived bowel cancer says she's worried that people still aren't checking themselves for symptoms of the disease. It comes as new research from Bowel Cancer UK suggests that nearly four in ten people can’t name a single symptom of bowel cancer. Jackie Mifflin says people should never be afraid to look for signs of bowel cancer.

Somerset County Council has been fined £2,000 after a girl with special needs missed nearly six months of school due to delays in reviewing her care plan. The girl missed a substantial amount of mainstream schooling between September 2021 and February 2022 during which time Somerset County Council fell short of giving her alternative education. The Local Government and Social Care Ombudsman have ordered the Council to compensate the family for the distress caused.

Yeovil Town Captain Josh has spoken out against proposed changes to the contracts of non-league footballers. The changes would mean players only be paid in full for twelve weeks after being injured and not playing. Josh Staunton says the move is totally unacceptable. A spokesperson for the Football Association says the changes to player's contracts are aimed at reflecting current employment legislation.

A business fair is being in Wincanton today. More than twenty-five businesses are attending the event in the Memorial Hall, organised by the Wincanton Chamber of Commerce, showcasing what is available on the High Street in Wincanton.

A meeting's being held tonight aimed at setting up a Repair Shop in Yeovil. Organiser, Richard Feltham, says he's looking to recruit people voluntarily with the work skills to repair all kinds of items. The meeting takes place at Milford Hall on Milford Road in Yeovil starting at 6 pm.
