Yeovil MP Marcus Fysh has supported the opening up of the country from July 19th. Examples of what the easing of restrictions will mean are an end to self-isolation for double vaccinated people and Covid "bubbles" in schools being replaced by regular testing. Meanwhile, the Registered Care Providers Association in Somerset has expressed concerns about the impact that lifting Covid restrictions will have on the care sector.

A woman in Chard says her family will be living in a static caravan for the next six months as they deal with the aftermath of last week’s flash floods in the town. Heavy rain caused a four-foot-deep river of water to rip apart the road outside Lilias Ahmeira's home.

Police are trying to trace the owner of a black Toyota after it collided with a motorbike on the A37 and failed to stop. The accident happened last Thursday, July 1st, on the stretch between Shepton Mallet and Lydford. The motorcyclist was taken to hospital with a broken wrist. Police say the Toyota had a 63 reg plate. Drivers on the A37 last Thursday who have dashcam footage of a black Toyota or who witnessed the accident are asked to call the non-emergency number 101.

Yeovil Hospital was represented by one of its nurses at the NHS birthday celebration held at St Paul's Cathedral in London earlier in the week. Gemma Jorge, a ward sister, joined hundreds of other health workers at the event, to mark the 73rd anniversary of the founding of the NHS.
