Yeovil Town is investigating reports that a fan or more than one fan used discriminatory and offensive language during the game against York City at Huish Park last Saturday. The club says it has a recording of the chanting, which is the subject of an internal investigation. The Football Association has been informed of the matter. In a statement, Yeovil Town says it stands firm against all forms of discrimination.

Somerset Chamber of Commerce has launched a new initiative to fill job vacancies across the County. The Local Skills Improvement Plan links employers with schools and colleges to find young people to take up employment.

A Somerton woman has appeared in court charged with threatening and abusive behaviour. Paris Ridley-Brown, of Russett Road, pleaded guilty to two counts of using threatening, abusive or insulting words in Somerton in January of this year. She was made the subject of a community order and told to pay compensation of £100 by magistrates in Yeovil.

Katie Galan-Wilkinson of Ilminster, who’s been treated for a brain tumour, raised £355 with her ‘Walk of Hope’ event held last weekend. Katie was joined on the two-mile hike by several dozen supporters with all proceeds going towards brain tumour research.

People in Chard are being asked to comment on plans to build 230 new homes on the eastern edge of town. Developers, Gladman Developments, want to use land off Oaklands Avenue and Avishayes Road for the scheme. The consultation is open until the end of September. It’s thought the company will submit a formal planning application to South Somerset District Council before the end of the year.

A birds of prey centre near Chard has launched a Just Giving appeal to feed the 100 animals that it looks after. Sharan Cox, the owner of Sher-an-day, says they've been hit hard by the rising cost of food and avian flu restrictions and that they need to raise £3,000 to provide food for the animals through the winter.
