The go-ahead has been given to build one hundred new homes in South Chard, despite strong local objections. The decision by a Planning Inspector overrides local concerns and rules out Somerset Council’s decision to reject the application. The houses will be built by the Bath-based developers, The Crossman Group, on land between Perry Street and Factory Lane in South Chard.

Sheep farmers across Somerset are calling for better protection against a virus affecting newborn lambs. Cases of the Schmallenberg disease have risen this year throughout the South West. The virus, transmitted by midge bites, causes lambs to be deformed or stillborn.

There’s a warning about a new Facebook scam. This latest one takes the form of fake fetes and events being announced at local venues, encouraging people to pay for pitch fees despite no event having been booked.
