Police are appealing for witnesses to a ‘hit and run’ in Henstridge in which an 8-year-old boy was knocked off his scooter. It happened in Furge Lane at 5 pm on Thursday, March 13th when the boy was struck by a car and the driver drove off without stopping. The boy was treated for superficial injuries at the scene. The driver of the car was later traced to Sherborne where he was arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving and failing to stop at the scene of a collision. If you witnessed the incident you’re asked to please call the non-emergency number 101.

The charity Brainwave has thanked people for their support after their medical centre in Bridgwater was targeted by vandals. Paint, stolen from a storeroom, was thrown across the front of the building and also splashed on a parked car.

People in Somerset wanting to hold street parties to mark the 80th anniversary of VE Day won't have to pay for a road closure. Somerset Council has waived the fee of £190 in the hope of encouraging people to hold street parties during the week of national celebrations marking the 80th anniversary of VE Day from Monday, May 5th to Sunday, May 11th.

Motorists are being advised that a number of roads are closed in Yeovil town centre at the moment. They include Central Road, near the William Dampier pub, which will stay shut all this week for resurfacing and the upgrading of traffic signals. Parts of Middle Street and South Western Terrace that are closed at nighttime for a new pedestrian crossing to be installed. Hendford, by the Octagon Theatre, will be shut between Hendford Medical Centre and the junction with Brunswick Street from March 24th to April 4th.

Plans have been submitted to open a new farm shop in Sherborne. The owners of Blackmarsh Farm at Dodds Cross on the A30 want to convert a 380 square meter stone farm building, alongside an existing Toy Barn on the site, into a farm shop.
