A West Camel bakery is hitting out at plans to open a new farm shop and hotel nearby. The proposed service station would be built next to the A303 as part of the new road development. However, ‘The Bakery’ which has traded alongside the original route since 1912 has criticised three years of disruption during the development, and fears for the future of the family business. The developers, Hopkins Estates, claim there will be an economic and jobs boost linked to the planned eco-friendly services.
A 24-year-old man from Ilminster has been arrested after Police stopped an illegal rave in east Somerset. Officers were called to the unlicensed event shortly before 11 pm on Saturday evening and found hundreds of people present with a number of vehicles parked on surrounding roads. Sound equipment was also seized, the man has been released on conditional bail and investigating officers are now appealing for information.
A man in his 80s has died after a collision on a rural Sherborne road. Emergency services responded to a collision at Grants Hill at Bradford Abbas on Saturday morning. The driver was pronounced dead at the scene. His family has been informed.
