Maternity services at Yeovil and Taunton hospitals have improved according to Somerset NHS Foundation Trust. It follows criticism from some new mums and an inadequate CQC inspection.

With Carnival season approaching, the Chard Carnival Committee have announced their 4th annual Street Fayre, taking place this Saturday. There will be stalls and entertainment along Holyrood Street and into the Library car park throughout the day. The Committee partnered with the Town Team and Museum earlier this year for July’s Party In The Park event.

The future of a popular four-star hotel and wedding venue near Chard has been ensured after the owners of 17 years sold the property last month. Hornsbury Mill was originally a nineteenth-century corn mill and retained many of its historic features after the conversion. The sale of the premises which includes ten ensuite rooms, a bridal suite, landscaped gardens and a lake was handled by local firm, Porter Dodson.

The finalists in the 2024 South West Farmer Awards have been announced, with Castle Cary’s DH & C Bennett and Son and Sophie Gregory from Chard’s Home Farm making the shortlist amongst others from across the region. The winners will be announced at the awards ceremony at Somerset County Cricket Club in November.
