Aldershot 1 - Yeovil 1

Yeovil Town were held to a 1-1 on the road against Aldershot Town on Good Friday.

In a huge clash at the bottom of the National League table, it could be said the Glovers edged it, but once again Town were left to bemoan their far-from-clinical nature.

Callum Harriott was on the scoresheet for the Glovers in the second half, turning home Matt Worthington’s cross to ensure the Green & Whites left the EBB Stadium with something.

It was an evenly-contested first half between the two sides, with no real clear-cut chances for either side.

Jordan Young sent an effort over the bar in the opening stages, whilst  Worthington had his header blocked on its way to goal.

At the other end, Josh McQuoid went closest for the Shots, forcing Grant Smith into a save with half an hour on the clock.

The hosts started the far better side in the second half, and it didn’t take long for their pressure to tell. A well-hit corner was met by Tyler Cordner who saw his header bounce the wrong side of the line from a Town perspective.

Looking to bounce back, Mark Cooper looked to his bench and introduced Harriott and Scott Pollock to the fold.

Minutes later with 65 on the clock, Harriott’s impact was felt as he put the Glovers level. After an excellent ball from Jordan Maguire-Drew released Linton, he combined well with Worthington who dragged the ball across the six-yard box for Harriott to poke home.

Knowing a win would be vital for both sides, it was a conclusion to the game that saw both sides attack with real intent.

With ten to go, Pollock send Linton into the left channel, but his strike could only find the side netting.

In the closing stages, it was a tale of two penalties, one given, one not. The first fell Aldershot’s way as former Glover Tahvon Campbell was adjudged to have been fouled by Chiori Johnson. Jake Hutchinson stepped up but blazed his effort over the bar.

As the game entered stoppage time, Town had a huge penalty shout waved away by the referee. As Pollock brought the ball down, he was bundled into by a Shots player, but the referee remained unmoved.

Level, was how it finished as the Glovers will now turn their attention to Monday’s home clash against Dorking.
