Barnet 2-1 Yeovil Town

Jamie Reckord’s goal was not enough for Yeovil Town as the Glovers slipped to a 2-1 defeat against Barnet.

Two second-half goals from the hosts were enough for a victory, which their performance deserved.

The full-back’s goal ignited a late fightback, but it wasn’t to be for Town in North West London.

Backed by a vocal crowd of 211, Mark Cooper’s side began well, with Matt Worthington sending a strike narrowly wide with a minute played.

This early chance woke up the hosts, who launched a barrage on the Yeovil goal. Penned into the Glovers box, corners, throw-ins and free-kicks were the order of the day for the Bees, with Town reliant on last-ditch defending to stay level.

It took until the stroke of halftime for Yeovil to go close again. Jordan Maguire-Drew was found by Jamie Reckord at the back stick, but his looping header was denied by a combination of Laurie Walker and the crossbar.

The second half started in a similar vein to the first, with Worthington firing a wayward effort before the hosts had a chance to get going.

This time, Yeovil enjoyed a little more pressure, with both Ryan Law and Lawson D’Ath having efforts blocked.

At the other end, Barnet still looked dangerous, Barrow loanee David Moyo went close with a header, that being their best effort before opening the scoring with 20 to go.

Finley Potter found the opener for the Bees. The defender, who might’ve been relieved to still be on the pitch after his last-man foul on Law, won his header before the ball seemed to take an age to drop into the back of the net.

Two minutes later, substitute Nicke Kabamba added a misery compiler. Pouncing on Owen Bevan’s heavy touch, he slotted beyond Grant Smith to build a comfortable advantage.

In fairness to Town, a fightback was ignited after Malachi Linton found Jamie Reckord in the box for the former Wrexham man to head home with 15 to go.

It really was a grandstand finish at the Hive, with the Glovers throwing bodies forward. Substitute Reo Griffiths had the best chance on his debut, but he could only slam his effort into Walker’s hands, with the full-time whistle following soon afterward.

Next up for Town is a trip to FC Halifax Town this Saturday (3 pm).
