Yeovil Town fell to a 2-0 defeat on the road against Oldham Athletic.
After dropping out of the FA Cup, Chris Hargreaves would have hoped his side could bounce back in the league, but frustrations continued as Yeovil struggled to test the Oldham goalkeeper.
Ultimately, goals in either half for Oldham secured a victory for the Latics.
Hargreaves made four changes to the side which fell to defeat against Taunton Town. Morgan Williams & Owen Bevan returned to the defence whilst Max Hunt dropped to the bench and Josh Staunton started in the midfield.
Lawson D’Ath began in the midfield in Callum Rowe’s place whilst Malachi Linton returned to the forward line.
Looking to rebuild confidence after the FA Cup exit, the game could not have got off to a worse start for Yeovil, trailing within six minutes. After failing to block a cross, the ball fell perfectly to Oscar Threlkeld’s feet who scored via a cruel deflection off Ben Richards-Everton.
The goal did not dishearten the Glovers, who enjoyed long spells of possession but struggled to conjure up any incisive play to turn the Oldham defence.
Set plays were Yeovil’s most common route to goal, the 24th minute saw Yeovil’s best chance of the half as Josh Staunton met Lawson D’Ath’s corner, but the skipper headed wide.
In the closing stages of the half, Oldham upped the ante and forced an excellent save from Grant Smith. Ben Tollitt worked room for himself at the edge of the box and fired what seemed to be a goal-bound effort on goal, but somehow the Glovers’ no.1 clawed the ball away.
At the break, Yeovil only had themselves to blame after enjoying so much of the ball but doing little with it.
At the break, Hargreaves looked to his bench and gave Ollie Hulbert his Yeovil debut in the place of Gime Touré who looked to be struggling with a knock. His first involvement was to find Chiori Johnson at the far post but he headed onto the roof of the net.
In truth, the second half bared a lot of resemblance to the first, with Yeovil mounting pressure, but leaving Magnus Norman with little to do.
Set-pieces continued to be where chances fell most often. On 65 minutes, D’Ath’s delivery was dangerous once again, this time his cross was met by Bevan who headed wide.
With twenty to go, Oldham doubled their advantage, catching Yeovil with bodies forward eventually playing the ball to Mike Fondop who poked home their second.
Yeovil continued to probe in the closing stages but Norman remained largely untested as Town were defeated in Oldham.
