Ten-man Yeovil Town struggled at Huish Park as they were defeated 1-0 by an organised Dorking Wanderers side.
In truth, Yeovil were punished for their lack of ruthlessness when getting into the final third and now have a very difficult task to stay in the division.
After an improved performance on Easter Friday against Aldershot, Mark Cooper would make just two changes to the starting line-up. In came Jamie Reckord for Ryan Law, on top of that there was a return for Scott Pollock, as Jordan Young took his place on the bench.
It was a fairly even opening with Malachi Linton and Matthew Worthington doing a lot of the early running for the Glovers.
As the half progressed Yeovil began to enforce themselves onto Dorking with nobody able to make anything of some wayward crosses from the wing-backs.
The first real opportunity fell to Worthington who after picking up the ball on the edge of the box would hit a fierce drive which Dan Lincoln was able to palm away with over half an hour gone.
The travelling side were always a threat on the break, and the rapid Jimmy Muitt almost saw his cross turned in by Josh Staunton.
But the way this season has gone for the Glovers, it was no surprise that Chiori Johnson, already on yellow for a poor challenge committed earlier in the game, was shown a second yellow for a foul in the final third.
In a bid to pick up that vital win, Mark Cooper brought on Andrew Oluwabori for Scott Pollock to add an injection of pace into the Town attack.
The substitute was instantly into the action and saw his effort cleared off the line after Maguire-Drew’s wicked delivery.
The ten men of Yeovil were now revitalised and the standout Miguel Freckleton saw his deflected effort go millimetres wide of Lincoln’s post.
Dorking though were always going to be a threat with Yeovil pushing men forward and Luke Moore had a huge opportunity but fired his effort wide from the edge of the box.
Linton was continuing to be a thorn in the backline of the Wanderers with his direct running creating opportunities for those around him.
However, tired legs began to show and the momentum shifted as we approached the last fifteen minutes. Those tired legs were duly punished after good work down the right-hand side, Moore’s effort was once again saved by Smith but he could only push it straight to veteran striker; Jason Prior who tapped home.
Now finding it much more comfortable the away side were creating opportunities and ex-Glover Ryan Seager would have added a second if it wasn’t for Smith.
Dorking controlled the final ten minutes without any real trouble and left Yeovil on the brink of relegation to the National League South.
Next up is another must-win game against Solihull Moors on the road.
