Yeovil 0 – 2 Aldershot

Yeovil Town fell to another defeat losing 2-0 at Huish Park against Aldershot Town.

In a performance that never really got going, the Glovers struggled to break the Shots down throughout the game.

After creating the better of the chances, Aldershot broke the deadlock through Giles Phillips who headed home with five minutes to go, before adding a second through Tommy Willard.

Chris Hargreaves opted for a change of system, switching to a 4-3-3. This meant Grant Smith remained in goal, with a back four of Owen Bevan, Josh Staunton, Ben Richards-Everton and Jamie Reckord ahead of him.

Returning from suspension, Matt Worthington began in a midfield three alongside Sam Perry and Callum Rowe. Ollie Hulbert made his first start on the left flank with Bristol City loanee Ewan Clark starting on the right. Alex Fisher led the line for the Glovers.

In a game between two sides who have struggled for goals this season, that trend continued in the first half, with no real clear-cut openings falling for either side.

Aldershot had the first effort of the game with just under 15 minutes played. Tommy Willard burst through on the right channel, but Grant Smith was equal to his effort.

Following this, the Glovers enjoyed a ten-minute spell where they put the Shots under some sustained pressure. The best chance came with 25 minutes on the clock. After moving the ball around nicely, Clark was found in the right flank and he forced a good save from Ashby-Hammond.

The visitors finished the half the stronger of the two sides, working in good positions but finding their touch escape them and the critical moment.

It was much of the same in the second half, with Yeovil's chances few and far between.

The first sight of a goal in the half fell to Alex Fisher in 55 minutes, as he was unable to drag his effort on target.

As the half grew on, Aldershot started to mount sustained pressure despite attacking changes from Yeovil Town.

The closing stages saw Aldershot strike twice, first in the 85th minute as Phillips powered home a header beyond Smith. Then in stoppage, as Willard put the game beyond doubt with an excellent finish when played through on goal.

That was how it finished as the Glovers fell to a defeat at Huish Park.

Yeovil Town: Smith; Reckord, Richards-Everton, Staunton, Bevan; Perry, Worthington, Rowe (Dawes); Clark (Johnson), Hubert, Fisher (Toure).
