Yeovil 1 – 0 Dagenham & Redbridge

Jamie Reckord’s goal was the difference as Yeovil Town secured their first win of the season with a 1-0 win over Dagenham & Redbridge.

In a game of few chances, Reckord’s first-half strike after great work from Fisher gave Yeovil a narrow lead before the break.

After a second-half onslaught from the visitors, the Glovers stood firm, grinding out three points for the first time under Chris Hargreaves.

Hargreaves looked for changes in the backline, with a first start for Ben Richards-Everton since his injury and a debut for Alfie Pond.

Looking further forward, Gime Touré made his first start for the Glovers, alongside Malachi Linton & Alex Fisher in the forward positions.

The game began with a slow start to proceedings, with neither side really getting a foothold.

It took until the 15-minute mark for the Glovers to fashion an opening. An excellent build-up saw the ball drop to Toure at the edge of the box, who fired first time and saw his shot blocked for a corner.

There was then another 15-minute wait for an opening, a deep cross found from Reckord found Linton who sent a tame header wide of the mark.

Just three minutes later, Town found a way in front. An excellent run from Fisher caught out the Dagenham defence, he then drilled the ball into Reckord’s path to turn home his third goal of the season!

Moments later, it should’ve been two. Efforts from Worthington, Linton & Williams in quick succession were all somehow blocked on their way to goal as there visitors hung on for dear life.

The second half began in an almost polarising fashion, with Dagenham looking to impose themselves on Yeovil.

Myles Weston was a constant threat down the right flank, a deep cross from him caused havoc in the box, with the post coming to Town’s rescue a minute into the half.

That was the theme of the half, with Yeovil standing firm, heading away everything the Daggers threw at them.

Despite their possession, Grant Smith found himself rarely tested, with his defenders working excellently in front of him, particularly 18-year-old Pond who didn’t look out of place on his debut.

As the final whistle was blown, it was a deserved victory for Town who dug deep for three points.
